BACKGROUND
Babson College is a small, private business college located just outside Boston, MA and has a total enrollment of 2,342 undergraduates and 830 postgraduate students. It is well known as the premier school in the country to study entrepreneurship and has consistently appeared on the U.S. News & World Report rankings as the number one college in entrepreneurship education for nearly three decades.
GOALs
The goal of the coaching program was twofold:
Provide just-in-time support and best-practices to professors to help them execute their current courses effectively
Build professors’ teaching toolkit, skills, and instincts to empower them tackle future instructional challenges.
THE PROGRAM
Coaching for each professor over the semester included four 60-90 minute classroom observations by an expert instructional coach followed up by four 30-60 minute debrief conversations to discuss specific instructional strengths and areas of opportunities observed. Beacon Instructional Partners also hosted a one-time instructional workshop, open to all assistant professors on campus, on methods to optimize student engagement in the higher ed classroom.
““I truly feel that this program significantly improved my effectiveness as an instructor. Students were more engaged this semester than they have ever been and I felt confident that I was reaching all students. I highly recommend this program to other faculty members and hope I get the chance to participate again to work on additional instructional goals I have.””
